4th of July Oreo Balls

4th of July Oreo Balls are creamy, crunchy no-bake treats coated in bright candy melts for a fun patriotic dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb 2.12 oz Family Size package Oreo Cookies
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 12 ounce bag red candy melts
  • 12 ounce bag blue candy melts
  • ⅓ cup Ghirardelli white melting wafers
  • White star confetti sprinkles, for topping

Instructions

  1. Cover two baking sheets with parchment paper and place them nearby.
  2. Add the Oreo cookies to a food processor or strong blender, then pulse until the cookies turn into fine crumbs.
  3. Beat the softened cream cheese in a large bowl with a hand mixer on high speed until smooth and creamy.
  4. Pour in the Oreo crumbs and mix on medium speed until the mixture comes together evenly.
  5. Scoop the mixture with a 1.5-inch cookie scoop, then roll each portion between your hands until smooth.
  6. Arrange the rolled balls evenly on the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Chill the trays in the refrigerator for 2 hours, or freeze them for 15-20 minutes when you need a quicker option.
  8. Take one tray of chilled Oreo balls out of the refrigerator.
  9. Melt the blue candy melts over low heat in a double boiler, or use a microwave-safe bowl on a low setting, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
  10. Dip each Oreo ball into the blue coating with a fork, let the extra coating drip off, then return it to the tray.
  11. Add white star confetti sprinkles right away before the coating firms.
  12. Place the blue-coated Oreo balls in the refrigerator until the shell is set.
  13. Remove the second tray of chilled Oreo balls from the refrigerator.
  14. Melt the red candy melts in a clean double boiler over low heat, stirring every 30 seconds until silky and fully melted.
  15. Coat each remaining Oreo ball in the red candy melts, tap off the extra coating, and set it back on the tray.
  16. Place the white melting wafers in a small piping bag and microwave in 30-second bursts, gently kneading the bag between each round until melted.
  17. Cut a tiny opening at the tip of the bag and drizzle white lines over the red-coated Oreo balls.
  18. Refrigerate the tray for 10 minutes, or until the coating has hardened.
  19. Keep the Oreo balls chilled until serving.

Notes

  • Cold Oreo balls are easier to dip and hold their shape better in the melted coating.
  • Decorate the blue-coated balls right after dipping so the star sprinkles stick.
  • Store finished Oreo balls in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
