Star-Spangled Brownies for the Fourth of July

Star-Spangled Brownies topped with blue candy drizzle and patriotic sprinkles

Star-Spangled Brownies are fudgy chocolate stars finished with blue candy drizzle and festive sprinkles for an easy holiday dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box brownie mix, sized for a 9×13 pan
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup cooled coffee
  • 1/3 cup softened butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 ounces blue candy melts
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Add the brownie mix, eggs, cooled coffee, softened butter, cocoa powder, and vanilla to a large bowl. Mix until the batter is smooth and fully blended.
  3. Spread the batter evenly into the lined baking dish.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the brownies cool fully before lifting them out of the pan.
  6. Press a star cookie cutter into the cooled brownie slab to make star shapes. A smaller cutter will give you more brownies.
  7. Set a wire rack over a baking sheet, then arrange the brownie stars on the rack.
  8. Place the blue candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Warm in 15 to 20 second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and silky.
  9. Drizzle the melted candy over the brownie stars.
  10. Add the red, white, and blue sprinkles right away so they stick to the candy coating.
  11. Let the candy topping firm up before serving.

Notes

  • The final number of brownies depends on the size of your star cutter.
  • Use a small star cutter to get extra pieces from the leftover brownie edges.
  • Any extra brownie scraps are perfect for snacking while you decorate.
