- 24 Oreo cookies, roughly chopped
- 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix, 3.9 ounces
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 box chocolate cake mix, 15.25 ounces
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup whipped topping, such as Cool Whip
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips, optional
- Extra Oreo cookies for garnish, optional
- Heat the oven to 350°F and lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with grease.
- Arrange the chopped Oreo cookies across the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Whisk the chocolate pudding mix with the cold milk in a bowl for about 2 minutes, until it thickens.
- Spoon or pour the pudding over the cookie layer and spread it gently.
- Scatter the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the pudding.
- Pour the melted butter over the top, covering as much of the cake mix as possible.
- Bake for 35 minutes, until the surface looks set with lightly crisp edges.
- Let the dessert rest for 10 minutes before adding toppings.
- Finish with whipped topping, mini chocolate chips, and extra Oreo pieces if desired.
- Serve warm or let it cool to room temperature before scooping.
Notes
- Let the cake cool briefly before serving so the pudding layer can settle.
- Add whipped topping and cookie garnish after baking for the best texture.
- Small portions work well because this dessert is rich and chocolatey.
