- Method: Shaken
- 3 Starbucks-brand Nespresso espresso capsules, or 3 freshly brewed espresso shots
- 3 tablespoons liquid simple syrup
- 1 cup ice cubes, with additional ice if needed
- 1/4 cup 2% milk, plus more according to taste
- Pour the simple syrup and hot espresso into a cocktail shaker, then add the ice.
- Fasten the lid securely and shake the mixture 10 times. A tightly sealed jar may be used in place of a shaker.
- Transfer the foamy espresso and all the ice into a 16-ounce serving glass.
- Pour in the milk and add more ice if the glass needs topping up.
Notes
- Substitute one espresso shot for each Nespresso espresso capsule.
- A 16-ounce drink requires 3 espresso or ristretto capsules. For a Vertuo machine, select espresso-size capsules rather than the 7.77-ounce coffee capsules.
- Any dark espresso roast can be used, although Starbucks espresso produces a flavor closer to the coffeehouse version.
- Dairy milk or plant-based milk will work. The original preparation uses 2% milk.
- Without an espresso machine, combine 1 1/2 tablespoons instant coffee with 1/3 cup hot water.
- Prepare simple syrup by gently heating 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water until fully dissolved. Cool it, store it in a sealed glass container, and refrigerate for 3 to 4 weeks.
- Cold foam may be added instead of regular milk for a thicker, creamier topping.
