Fresh Berry Trifle

Fresh Berry Trifle layered with whipped cream, cake, and fresh berries in glass bowl

Fresh Berry Trifle is a cool, creamy summer dessert layered with soft cake, sweet berries, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups vanilla pudding, prepared instant pudding is fine
  • 34 cups whipped cream, preferably freshly made
  • 23 cups cubed cake, about one 9×13 cake
  • 1 cup blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries
  • Optional: extra berries, as desired

Instructions

  1. Rinse the berries, pat them dry, and let them finish drying while you prepare the other layers.
  2. Cut the cake into bite-size cubes, whip the cream, and prepare the vanilla pudding.
  3. Spoon a layer of pudding into a medium bowl or trifle dish.
  4. Add cake cubes over the pudding so the cake can soften slightly.
  5. Layer in the berries and whipped cream.
  6. For a pretty edge, arrange berries and cake pieces neatly against the glass as you build the layers.
  7. Repeat the layers until everything is used, ending with whipped cream on top.
  8. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Fresh whipped cream gives the dessert the lightest texture.
  • Frozen berries can be used if they are thawed, drained, and patted dry first.
  • Add more berries for extra color and fresh fruit flavor.
